Thelma is also a part-time fiber artist. Through a combination of punch needle embroidery, rug tufting, and locally-sourced secondhand yarn, she makes 3-D textile art inspired by ordinary objects – food, frogs, flowers, birds. Her work has supported fundraising for the Iowa City Public Library (Arts and Crafts Bazaar 2023) and The Englert Theater (Mission Creek Festival 2024 & 2025 Fundraiser), and the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
